Year of the Emerald: Stars are Gorgeous in Green

The colour experts at Pantone have crowned emerald green the Colour of the Year for 2013, and with most of us still seeing green in the wake of St Paddy’s Day, it seems only fitting that we’re updating our wardrobes with a daring dash of emerald. Posh and Angelina have both been spotted sporting the green gems on the red carpet, and as the trend catches on it seems Hollywood is fast becoming Emerald City!

Here’s a look at some of Tinseltown’s reigning “green goddesses” of the moment:

Rock Chic

Kelly Osbourne’s glam Zac Posen gown in pale green landed her on all the best-dressed lists for the 2013 Golden Globes, and her sparkling emerald accessories by Jacob & Co turned us green with envy. Kelly wore an emerald cocktail ring and a pair of $3 million teardrop earrings set with emeralds, white diamonds and natural pearls. Fashionistas the world over gave Ms Osbourne the green light for her Golden Globes look!

Queen B’s Bling

The lip-synching drama might have taken some of the shine off Beyonce’s Inauguration performance, but we honestly didn’t notice – we were too busy looking at her ears! The pop diva rocked a huge pair of custom designed 80-carat emerald earrings that added the perfect pop of colour to her ensemble (a black Emilio Pucci gown embroidered with velvet detailing). Bey’s gorgeous green earrings were estimated to be worth around $1.8 million, and that impressive stat climbed even higher with the addition of her matching 50-carat emerald ring.

Engaging Emerald

While we’re on the subject of “putting a ring on it”… Halle Berry’s beau Olivier Martinez popped the question with the help of French designer Robert Mazlo last year, and it seems the jeweller anticipated the 2013 emerald trend well ahead of time! Halle’s engagement ring is one of a kind, with a 4-carat Colombian emerald and two diamonds set in a band of textured yellow gold, inscribed with cods and symbols that can only be seen by the wearer. This extra-special piece of jewellery “symbolises the couple’s love story” says Mazlo; “only they can interpret it”. Emeralds are also 20th and 35th wedding anniversary stones, so the future Mrs Martinez could be looking forward to a few more beauties like these in the years to come.

Pantone has hailed emerald green as “Lively, radiant and lush”, and we at Gemondo couldn’t agree more. There’s never been a better time to snap up some emerald jewellery for a bit of on-trend sparkle; and those of you looking forward to a birthday in May will be happy to hear this year’s hottest gemstone is also your birthstone!
